The Confusing Candidacy of Ron Paul

I cannot wait for the Iowa Caucus to be over and for the Presidential election bus to move on.  I guess, though, what I am really looking for is for Ron Paul to drop in the polls far enough to be a non-entity in the choice for the Republican candidate.  While he touts some ideas and positions I agree with, his position on foreign policy is very troubling and enough so that he will never get my vote.

Here is the question:  How can someone who regularly refers to "the founders" and "founding principles" have a philosophy that fundamentally denies American exceptionalism and refuses to allow for decisive action to protect the U.S. homeland?  It is confusing and disturbing.  As if that is not enough, Mr. Paul takes the position of a "non-interventionist" when it comes to geo-political world interactions.  Have we not learned anything from the past and the isolationism of Wilson?  Yes, we absolutely need to make changes to cut the out of control government spending, but I believe that can happen while maintaining our leadership role in the world.

Those are the two big issues for me, however, there are several other more minor problems with a Ron Paul Republican nominee:
-He has stated that in running for President he is not someone out for power; interesting, as he is someone who has run for President 3 times now.  That would mean he wants the office pretty badly.
-He is old!  He would be 77 when inaugurated, the same age Reagan was when he left office.
-His age and demeanor would not play well against the slick Obama and his machine.  We cannot gamble away the chance to replace Obama, our country cannot survive another 4 years of this administration.
-He wants to legalize marijuana.
-Last night at the Republican candidate debate, he agreed that his foreign policy was left of Obama's!  Think of that: Left of Lefty Obama's policies.

How can someone be so far left in some issues, and so far right in others?
Confusing, I know.
We need a candidate with a solid conservative foundation, experience, and exceptional leadership skills -
not a Ron Paul.
